The Berwyn United Methodist Administrative Board, at it's meeting on January 31, 2006, adopted a resolution establishing a covenant relationship with Iglesia Evangelica Metodista Roca Eterna (Eternal Rock Evangelical Methodist Church) in Ahuachapán.

Be it resolved that that the Berywn United Methodist Church (BUMC) establish a sister relationship with Roca Eterna.

Be it further resolved that this relationship shall call us to communicate regularly, support each other with gifts (both financial and spiritual) and visit when possible.

Be it further resolved that through this relationship we discover the mutual encouragement that Paul wrote of in Romans 1:10 -12:

"One of the things I always pray for is the opportunity, God willing, to come at last to see you. For I long to visit you so I can share a spiritual blessing with you that will help you grow strong in the Lord. I'm eager to encourage you in your faith, but I also want to be encouraged by yours. In this way, each of us will be a blessing to the other." (NLT)

Be it further resolved that the Goals and Rationale set out below be adopted as a mutual commitment:

  • Encourage unity in Christ by creating and nurturing mutual relationships characterized by prayer, interchanges between the communities, visits and learning to know one another.
  • Edify the churches spiritually with greater understanding between cultures.
  • Share economic resources in ways that reflect the teachings of the Lord and edify the Church (II Corinthians 8:9-14).
  • Enable both congregations to articulate and mature in their faith. While BUMC has greater financial resources, this shall be a relationship between equals. Those of us who visited Roca Eterna received an unexpected gift, and our lives have been changed by the rich faith and abundant joy of our Salvadoran brothers and sisters. Both congregations will be blessed through this on-going relationship.

Be it further resolved that the Means of Sharing set out below be adopted:

  • Communicate with each other at least once a month (including phone calls, e-mail, standard mail, exchange of videos, letters from Sunday School classes, etc.)
  • Exchange newsletters, directories, photos from special events.
  • Share prayer lists and concerns.
  • Encourage regular communication among youth and children, to share information, discuss the Bible, etc.
  • Undertake special trips, hosting exchange students, pulpit exchange, if possible.
  • Provide on-going financial support for mutually-agreed upon projects. For the year 2006, BUMC pledges to support Roca Eterna with a gift of $1,200.
