Berwyn Food Pantry

Local

The Berwyn United Methodist Church operates a food pantry that aims to provide food assistance to people in need in the community. The food pantry is located at the church's premises and serves families and individuals residing in Berwyn and its neighboring areas.

The Berwyn United Methodist Church Food Pantry is a volunteer-run program that relies on the generous donations of food and funds from the local community. The pantry accepts donations of non-perishable food items such as canned goods, pasta, rice, and cereal. Additionally, the food pantry welcomes donations of personal care items such as toiletries, cleaning supplies, and diapers.

The Berwyn United Methodist Church Food Pantry is an essential resource for those facing food insecurity in the community. The food pantry not only provides individuals and families with the necessary sustenance but also offers a welcoming and supportive environment to those in need. The program's volunteers are dedicated to providing compassionate care and working to end hunger in the local community.

Join us in Fighting Hunger: Supporting the CYEC's Food Pantry and Community Garden Initiative in Kenya

International

As followers of Jesus, we are called to serve and care for those in need, especially the most vulnerable among us. For many years, Berwyn UMC has collaborated with the Children and Youth Empowerment Centre (CYEC) in Kenya, supporting their life-changing work with highly vulnerable young people in Nyeri and the surrounding communities. Over 150 children and youth benefit from their care, and their outreach activities touch many more.

However, CYEC has recently observed an increase in hunger in their community, and they are responding to this challenge by sharing their limited resources with local families in need. As a church community, we can join them in this effort and make a significant impact on the lives of those facing hunger in Kenya.

The CYEC is now seeking to establish a food pantry and eventually a community garden to provide sustainable food sources for those facing hunger in their community. With just $750, we can help CYEC establish the program by preparing a room, building shelves, and stocking essential food items. Additionally, Berwyn UMC plans to provide $75 per month to sustain the program.

We will be using our Easter offering to support this initiative and encourage our members to participate. You can also contact Janelle Larson or Sue Burriss for more information or to make a donation. By contributing to this project, we will be supporting a worthy cause that provides life-sustaining resources to vulnerable young people in Kenya.

In addition, we will be answering Jesus' call to feed the hungry and promote greater equity and justice in the world. Together, we can make a difference and bring hope to those who need it most.

Seasonal Projects

One Warm Coat Drive (in memory of Amy Dwyer)

October 19, 2024 - November 27, 2024 Local

On October 5th, we commemorated the12thanniversary of the passing of our dear friend Amy Dwyer, who was a compassionate and caring person. To honor her memory, we have organized a winter coat collection drive, which has been an annual tradition. Each year, the drive has been a huge success, with the collection of over 2,000 winter coats.

The collected coats and other cold weather items are distributed among individuals and families who are in need of warmth and protection from the harsh winter weather. Among the recipients are the homeless and individuals who have been victims of abuse, who may not have the resources to obtain adequate winter clothing.

By participating in this winter coat collection drive, we are not only honoring Amy's memory but also making a meaningful impact on the lives of those in need. It is heartwarming to see the community come together in support of this cause, and we hope to continue this tradition for years to come.

Methodist Services’ Holiday Toy Drive

October 31, 2024 - December 11, 2024 Local

Making Children’s Holidays Special

Methodist Services is an organization committed to making a positive impact on the lives of children, adults, and families who are facing challenging circumstances such as limited resources, poverty, homelessness, disabilities, and educational inequities. The organization offers a range of life-enriching programs to support individuals and families through these difficult times.

Early childhood education, school-age programs, housing services, support for families, mental health and counseling services, and nutrition programs are just some of the many services provided by Methodist Services. These programs are designed to address the needs of individuals and families in a holistic manner, recognizing that every aspect of a person's life is interconnected.

As part of its commitment to supporting individuals and families, Methodist Services has launched an annual holiday gift drive. The organization plans to provide one gift for each of the 1,200 children and teens it serves, as well as a gift card for every participant in its Education, Housing, Counseling, and Care Management programs. By providing these gifts, Methodist Services hopes to bring a little bit of joy and comfort to those who are struggling during the holiday season.

As a community, we can all play a role in supporting the important work of Methodist Services. By donating gifts or gift cards, we can help ensure that every child and teen served by the organization receives a special gift during the holiday season. Let's come together to make a positive impact on the lives of those in need and show them that we care.
