Prayer of Confession

God of Life, you are always speaking, always making yourself known if we just pay attention. We confess that we often follow our own ideas of what we want to see and hear, and make assumptions about you—sometimes based on the past, sometimes on our limited understanding, or on what others say. But your ways are beyond ours, and your thoughts are more than we can comprehend. Forgive us when we act on these assumptions instead of listening to your voice, when we focus on what you didn’t ask for to avoid what you did. Help us to love as you love. Speak to us again today, for we are listening.
